How Much and What Are Students Takeing Away?

As I was reading Mr. Fisch's blogg "Our Seinors Last Lecture" I really started to think about what am I getting from what I am doing in class? This is challangeing my thinking by makeing me stop and try to figure out what I am takeing away and why this is important for me to learn. This helps me learn that even though I think some of the asingments may not be very important there is always a reason behind them. This matters to me beacuse I am at the age where I am not sure that everything has a purpose and that some assignments are just a waste of time but this makes me think that it is not just a waste of time and that we really need to learn what we are being taught. I can reate to this because when the school year is comeing to a close I really do not want to do much work much less take very much away from it. I can relate this to the world around me because I know that most students really look forward to the summer and that is what they are thinking about it the last semster not school work wich makes them not do as well on there work and not concentrate as much or as well. This has changed my thinking because it has made me realize that there is a point behind everything that we do and because it has shown me that there are many different things that students can take away from the same piece of information. This makes me wonder if all teachers should have there studnets share what they have learned and if they did that if other students would learn form that.

Are We Learning What We Need In School?

As I was reading Tony Wagner's "Rigor Redefined". Wagner talked about how he is not sure that we are being taught weverthing that we need to be so that we will be successful in the job world. He also is not sure that we are learning the seven skills most employers look for. As I was reading this article I was wondering why are questions so important? This question got to me because everything that he stated was revolved around questions. I think that schools are teaching us the best they can with everything they have at the moment. I also think that schools should be teaching us how to take all the information for say on the internet and for us to know wich is useful for us and wich is not useful. This is useful for me because it shows me what skills I need to have in order to get some of the jobs that I may want in my later years. This is also usfel to me because it shows me that I have to work had at these skill because who knows who else around the world and know this same information. This got me thinking that now a days we are competing against many more people around the world so we have to have the seven skills the best possible. This also got me thinking as he mentioned that not all kids in schools or class know the answers to the questions and when teachers call on a student who speaks quietly so no one can hear them and then dont repeat the answer then a lot ofthe kids well never know. Also he stated that students just go into class and follow the directions but have no idea why they need to do this or what is important.

Do You Wanna Be Famous??

As I read seventeen's article Study Proves Kids Today Just Want To Be Famous I found it intresting how in just 25 years students went from being intrested in docotors, teachers, and finace to being intrested in athlets, pop stars and actors. This got me thinking why would students just want there name to be out in the world so a bunch of people know about them and getting paid the most? Why would they not want to help others? Yes I must admitt I would like to be famous but I also think that it is necesary to help others. This helps me learn that prior to my time people were more worried about there education and the education of others. This is revelant to me because yes I think it would be cool to be famouse but so do a lot of people. I can connect to this because most of the people in my generation and younger are going to grow up be in movies or such and it will be really cool to be able to say I went to middle or high school with them. This relates to the world around me because who knows where or what my friends are going to end up doing and if they do become famous who knows if I will have influnced why they went there. This opens me up to a new possibility of maybe becoming an actor or a singer. This makes me wonder why do kids just want to be famous? Why has job choices changed so much in just 25 years? Will any generation ever get back to being more intrested in education? Some statistics that got to me where how the percentage of what people wanted to be preatty much just flip floped. If we dont take notice of this I am not sure anything will end bad but I am preatty sure that if we dont start caring about our learning than education will not be as good as it could be. I personally find this to be quite intresting but I also find it to be concerning that we are not takeing our education as serious.

Should Kids Be Spending More Time In School And Have A Shorter Summer?

As I was reading the MSNBC article More School? Obama Could Trim Summer Break. The article talked about how Obama thinks that studnets in the United States are spending to much time out of the classroom which puts us at a disadvantage to other students around the world. He also states that he thinks the school day should be three hours longer, we should go to school saturday and sunday and that school should go longer into the summer. As I was reading this made me think does Obama really think that students will go to school on the only two days they have off? I mean if you think about it we are in school for five of the seven days of the week and we really need those two days. Not only do we go to school that much but teachers also assigne homework to us every night. It also made me think how does he expect kids to get involved in school. If you go to school till dinner then have to go to practice there will be no time for homework. Also if you are on sports or plays and have to go to school on the weekends then when will you be able to play your games or performances? Iam not a big fan of this because as was mention in the article later on don't you think teenagers are allready over loaded and this would just make it worse. This affects me because if this comes true than I might have to go to school longer in high school.I really do not like this and think kids need there time away from school so I hope two things 1. that if it does come true he thinks about it hard and 2. he comes up with what is best for everybody not just him.

Being Home Sick and Staying Caugt Up.

As I was reading Mr.Fich's blog "H1N1, Skype, And A Possible Tipping Point". He was stating that it is getting to the point where just because you are sick does not mean that you should be behind. I found it to be quite interesting how people who are home sick can stay connected through skype. This matters to me because if I was sick I could stay caught up. As you get farther in education the more you miss the harder it is to get caught up. Other people should care about this because if they are sick then it would be less like missing school. The turning point of this is that we might not have to go to school because teachers can skype their teachings. We can watch when ever we want but on the other side there are some negatives because students might not do their work, people who need help wouldn't get help as easily and it would be harder to communicate with teachers. This makes me wonder if before I graduate, if we will have skype network or if we will actually have to go to school. Some background knowledge I have is that you need the child teacher interactions and student to student interactions so this makes me wonder if when skype learning network actually happens if youth social abilities will be lower because they don't have to communicate as much with others. This also makes me wonder how teachers are going to grade papers and if all of the teachers assignments will be in internet/computer form. This really got me thinking about how technology and sickness will change our learning environment. This also got me thinking that technology will change our learning because we will not have to carry home text books and we will always have what we need preaty much wherever we are.

Teen Birth Higher In More Religous States

As I was reading "Teen Birth Rates Highest In Most Religious States". I found it interesting due to the title, it really got me thinking. Why would people go against there own religious beliefs? This matters to me because I am a teenager. Other people should care about this because it is happening to other people in there world and this could happen to peoples children if they are not careful. I think this is sad because why would teens want to have children before they are really ready? The consequences are that the teens will have another person to take care of.

Should All Students Get A's???

As I was reading "The Possibility Of More" It made me start to think what would happen if teachers gave all of there students A's just because. As Mr. Krause said if I give all my students A's then they will just not work because they will already have the grades they want. This made me think that yes I would work to keep my grades up but I am not sure I would work all the time to keep it up. This helps me learn that if you want something you have to work for it it will not just be there for you all of the time. This is relevant to me because yes I would like all A's but I must work for them. A consequence is that if you don't try you get a bad grade and you need to try.

The New Literacy Of My Time

As I was reading “The New Literacy” article it really made me start to think about how the technology that I use in my everyday life outside of school could help me in school. The article mentioned that before the internet came once you left school you would never right another paragraph. I have a hard time believing this is true because when you fill out a job application you have to put things such as your experience. Another point in the article that stuck out and made me question was that through the media that we have today it has given kids the chance to long papers that were complex while also making them work together. This article really got me thinking.

As I was watching “The Machines Are Us/ing Us” I found it interesting how we are the ones that have to store all the information on the web. This video really got me thinking about how we really do have to start rethinking copyright. My question is if you copyright means that it is yours and no one can copy or reproduce the product without talking to you yet anybody can change information on the web then is there really a copyright for the web? This is connected to the world because everyday teachers use a computer, everyday teachers use phones. We use the machines all the time. This article got me thinking about the machines we use daily and how much we use them.
